I've heard that fake awards are a good (yet slightly unethical) way to get backlinks.
i.e. make a fake webmaster award such as "best site design" and award it to the sites that you want a link to, make an image badge or "trophy" with your URL in it and give it to the webmaster to "show off" on his site.
Though I do realize this method requires an already credible site, what does everyone else think about it?
